Course Title: Basic “Correctional Emergency Response Team” (CERT)

Date: September 26-28, 2023

Time: 0800 – 1700 hrs.

Course Description:

This is a basic CERT course designed to teach officers how to use basic CERT tactics and techniques

while working as a team. The course will show the officer how to safely handle high risk jail situations

commonly encountered by CERT officers. The training will cover cell extractions, movement

techniques, high risk transports, long range impact munitions, riot control, advanced ground fighting

techniques, edged weapons defense techniques and threat assessment to include a final practical exercise

and written test. The training will be conducted by CERT instructors and is very practical exercise

intensive. Officers attending this training will need the following equipment:

Required Equipment:

1. BDU pants and a t-shirt or Tactical Top.

2. Duty gun belt (with no weapons or ammo), including handcuffs and key, belt keepers.

3. Elbow and Knee Pads, or shin protectors.

4. Helmet w/ face shield or goggles.

5. Upper body protection, such as chest and back protectors or body armor.

6. Padded Gloves

7. Tactical Boots or Shoes

Notice: Students should have no physical limitations; this class will be physically challenging.

Recommended for: Any officer or deputy who is currently on a CERT Team or is a new member to a

CERT Team.

In-service Credit: 24 hours of career development

Registration: Maximum class size is 16.

Fee: No fee for member agency.

$375 for non-Cardinal member personnel
